Spring Waters: A Watercolor Study Series
This series of watercolor paintings explores the subtle beauty and serenity of waterfalls through a disciplined daily practice. Each piece, measuring 6" x 6", was created within a 45-minute time over the course of several days. The goal of this study was to experiment with the fluidity and softness of watercolor while observing the interaction of water, rock, and reflection in a springtime landscape. Though unified by subject (with each painting depicting waterfalls surrounded by rocks), every composition presents a unique perspective, such as viewing a waterfall from above, head-on, or from a distance. The use of soft, muted tones was a purposeful stylistic choice to convey a sense of calm and stillness. In particular, I paid lots of attention to capturing the reflective surfaces of the water to draw the viewer into the peaceful atmosphere of each scene.

As one of my first explorations in watercolor, this series also represents a meaningful step in developing my understanding of landscape, light, and emotional tone through paint.
